I am a huge fan of Elin Hilderbrand。 But Barefoot was not a good one for me。 Some of the relationships in the book were a bit “cringing” to me。 I won’t give any spoilers。 I do love the setting。 Nantucket is always a great place to have a story!

Two sisters - Vicki and Brenda- and a friend Melanie head to a small family house on Nantucket to escape and deal with what life has thrown at them。 Vicki has a life threatening cancer, Brenda has been shamefully dismissed from her university teacher position and Melanie is pregnant after many rounds of IVF but has not told her openly cheating husband。 Josh a college student who lives year long on the island comes into their lives and it changes them and him。

Stephanie

I enjoyed it mostly until the end。 I would have preferred a different ending。 It was to pretty, wrapped up to neatly

Cancer happens in everyone’s life My son died of Ocular melanoma at the age of 39。 Cancer is so terrible。 Just watching a loved one or going through it yourself means you have to be tough and strong。 I just lost a very close girlfriend last February and have another girlfriend with pancreatic cancer。 I’ve just seen too much!

a book about 3 women who are running away from their problems for the summer and heading over to a family Nantucket’s home。 one of the reasons i gave this a 4 star instead of 5 was because there were SO many characters i felt like i couldn’t keep anyone straight。 i loved the stories of each and every one of them! i felt like melanie’s story was kinda lost at the end and i felt like (no spoiler) what happened just didn’t have much reasoning i guess you could say?

Three women in Nantucket for the summer。 All 3 are dealing with difficult situations in their life。

Okay…so I plowed through because I wanted to know how Vicki’s health crisis played out, but these women are a train wreck。 And I just don’t get the mess with DiDi and her whining, manipulating, blackmailing ways。 No one would have put up with that mess。Very disappointing。

I always love her books。 They are my go to when I need a break from more difficult or complicated reading。 Relationships are always interesting and I love her descriptions of Nantucket。

A feel good contemporary novel。 Warm and cozy。 Perfect book to pass the day reading on the beach。 Well written。 Characters are a little shallow and predictable but I didn't mind。 I will be checking out more from this author。 A feel good contemporary novel。 Warm and cozy。 Perfect book to pass the day reading on the beach。 Well written。 Characters are a little shallow and predictable but I didn't mind。 I will be checking out more from this author。 。。。more

This is a good book and if you are used to the writing of the author you already have a good idea about writing style and basic story formula。 Three women arrive at the Nantucket airport tarmac in June。 Each of the women has something they are dealing with be it small children, health, domestic un-bliss or some other such thing。 Vicki has learned she has a very serious illness and is trying very hard to deal with that and her two small children。 Brenda, her sister, recently had to leave her job This is a good book and if you are used to the writing of the author you already have a good idea about writing style and basic story formula。 Three women arrive at the Nantucket airport tarmac in June。 Each of the women has something they are dealing with be it small children, health, domestic un-bliss or some other such thing。 Vicki has learned she has a very serious illness and is trying very hard to deal with that and her two small children。 Brenda, her sister, recently had to leave her job after having an affair with a student。 Their friend Maggie has tried seven times with in vitro and is finally pregnant, only to find out that her husband is a real jerk and has been having an affair。 In some way or another all the women have come to Nantucket to escape their realities, enjoy some nice sun, and to just relax。 However, one day twenty to year old Josh Flynn enters their lives。This book is really kind of cute and also very frustrating at some points。 The sister relationship is one that I found interesting to follow。 It’s a very realistic relationship in many ways to a lot of sibling relations。 As usual with what I’ve read from the author, there were issues going on that I was just so angry with at certain points but I can’t really talk about those。 It’s just that some relationships seemed almost cruel。In the end though I had a great time reading this book and getting to meet the characters。 This is another book that I can’t rate less than a 5 star simply because of how much I loved my time in the pages。 。。。more

I needed to escape to Nantucket。

It’s a good book but it’s not a GOOD BOOK。 I enjoyed the read and it’s definitely a “beach” read。 I wouldn’t tell somebody to go rush and read it。 I enjoyed myself though and it wasn’t hard to get through。

2。6Least favorite Of all her books that I’ve read。

This book’s characters were irritating and the book was way too long dragging on。 I like Elin’s books a lot, but this is not a favorite at all。

I enjoyed this book。 While it did bounce around a bit & had flashbacks, I thought it was a nice easy read。 Although I wish it ended differently with Melanie & Josh, I was rooting for Vicki's cancer free diagnosis which happened。 I enjoyed this book。 While it did bounce around a bit & had flashbacks, I thought it was a nice easy read。 Although I wish it ended differently with Melanie & Josh, I was rooting for Vicki's cancer free diagnosis which happened。 。。。more

Easy read。

Always engaging and entertaining。 Great beach read, as per usual。 A little heartwarming, a little scandal。 Nothing earth shattering but Hilderbrand doesn’t disappoint。 Enjoyed prior to and during spring break beach vacation。

Another wonderful book by Elin set on her home island of Nantucket。 A book about family, loss, pain, hope and recovery! It’s a book that so beautifully captures the human experience。 I was enthralled from the first page and simply could not get enough。

Terri

A more concise ending would have been nice :/

I want to like this more than I did。 It was very long and front heavy on the details。 I would’ve liked more back end details to balance it out。 For 400+ pages the endings for each character were only 50ish pages。 SPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERS BELOWSPOILERSSPOILERS The one with Vicki, Melanie, and Brenda, three women living on Nantucket for a summer。 Vicki has cancer but she ends up beating it。 Melanie is pregnant but hasn’t told her husband because he’s having an affair。 In tu I want to like this more than I did。 It was very long and front heavy on the details。 I would’ve liked more back end details to balance it out。 For 400+ pages the endings for each character were only 50ish pages。 SPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERS BELOWSPOILERSSPOILERS The one with Vicki, Melanie, and Brenda, three women living on Nantucket for a summer。 Vicki has cancer but she ends up beating it。 Melanie is pregnant but hasn’t told her husband because he’s having an affair。 In turn, she falls for the college boy, Vicki’s kids’ babysitter。 Ultimately she stays with her husband and “hopes” it works out。 Brenda was a professor who slept with her student (who was actually older than her) but she was fired and now is trying to sell a screenplay as a career。 She may or may not be successful。 That’s open ended。 。。。more

Light reading, good for a summer read at best

Josh Flynn saved this book just like he saved summer for the three women in the Shell Street cottage。 Started off rough, but this story drew me in。 Heartbreaking at times, a classic Elin summer story。
